We will look at the source, gift, and meaning of Christian Faith and its effect in our lives. While the gift of Faith will be contrasted with Paul’s criticism of “salvation” by works, we will ask how our works or actions do fit into salvation.

Jesus and Boundaries

This day will be dedicated to a meditation upon the mind-and-heart expanding power of God’s Word. Despite human obstacles God’s Word continues to carry the person of faith into God’s future.

We will contemplate the Prologue of John’s Gospel and its meaning in this Advent Season. (John 1:1-18)

Senior Day of Prayer

"Look, I am doing something new" Isaiah 43:19

Led by Fr. Bill Rakowicz, S.J.

Dear friends,
The senior day retreat is based on these two passages from scripture:

’Thus says God,
Who made a way through the sea,
a path in the raging waters,
who led out chariot and horse
together with an army of picked troops:
they lay down never to rise again,
they were snuffed out, put out like a wick.
No need to remember past events,
No need to think about what was done before.
Look, I am doing something new,
now it emerges; can you not see it?
Yes, I am making a road in the desert
and rivers in wastelands.
The wild animals will honor me,
The jackals and the ostriches,
for bestowing water in the desert
and rivers on the wastelands
for my people, my chosen one, to drink.
The people I have shaped for myself
will broadcast my praises.’

(Isaiah 43:16-21)

"I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." (Mt. 22:32)

Two talks will be given. The first will be a recollection of all the blessings I have received in my personal life, and within the context of these personal gifts, people will be invited to ask themselves "What have I done for Christ, What am I doing for Christ and What will I do for Christ?" The talk will be followed by a time for private prayer and reflection.

A reconciliation service will follow and then lunch.
The second talk will follow after lunch which again will be a reflection on all the good things the loving God Our Father has given us in our personal lives and the participants will be invited to return these gifts back to God in thanksgiving and love.

After the afternoon prayer and reflection, Eucharist will be celebrated which will conclude the prayer day.

Bon Voyage

Fr. Bill Poorten, S.J. and Fr. Ed Nagle, S.J. will be leaving Loyola House of Retreats in September.
They have been reassigned to St. Michael’s Jesuit Parish in Buffalo, N.Y.

If you would like to bid them farewell, please drop by Loyola between 2PM and 5PM on Sunday September 12th.
