The Man Born Blind — Transforming Our Hindsight, Insight and Foresight: The powerful account in John’s Gospel of Jesus healing the man blind from birth is read on the fourth Sunday of Lent every third year — or in any year when a Catholic parish has the privilege of preparing candidates for the Sacraments of Initiation. This richly layered story serves as a meditation on the meaning of baptism, and on God’s healing power to transform our sacred understanding of who we are and who we are called to be. In our day of prayer and reflection, we will break open the story exploring how, through the lens of Lenten faith, we too might ‘see with new eyes.’ How can the experience of the man born blind become our own story, seeing the legacies of our past, the blessings of our present, and the bright hope of our future with gratitude and new energy for discipleship?
